Whiritoa Pictures

Well I uploaded some pictures and I thought I should post them here to show everyone how beautiful the beach at Whiritoa was. There's nothing to compare here in Auckland!

Here are the waves crashing the beach, so beautiful!

And here is more waves, this area is rougher, closer to the rocks and stuff. It spalshes up and looks all powerful. So great.

This is uncle tony, the owner of the bach we stayed at, and my sister with her first catch ever!

And large expanse of ocean that caught my eye on the boat, even though I was feeling rather ill.

And this is my sister and I on the beach after a day swimming and chilling out!

That's Whiritoa for ya, gorgeous aye? Well I think so and I had a really nice time there, just relaxing which seems like a favourable pass time now, it'll be hard to give up when school starts.

Course confirmation this year was a mess, no one really knew when to go or what would happen when you got there. Fortuanely I missed the crowds by going in early. And it's official, I dropped media for stats. What ever reactions my friends out there have, save it, I've made the decision and I don't want to doubt myself anymore, it gets tiring.

Well it feels like things are getting started now, I look forward to this year, though marginally less than before...

Take care everyone!

Holidays are ending

This part of the holidays, after the initial excitement at the freedom and of course, after results have been distributed, it is often a time of contemplation for most of us - Most of us that care that is. And so, because I am a person who cares (for now at least, I cannot guarantee I will be able to sustain this state of mind for an entire year…) I have done a lot of thinking of my own. And as usual (my closer friends will know) with a lot of thinking usually comes some writing. I am happy to say for the moment, my writers block has also taken a holiday.
But besides all this contemplation (I might tell you some of my thoughts later…if I can be bothered.) I have been doing some normal-ish holiday activities.

I went to see Varekai on Tuesday with my Dad and my conclusion? ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I had heard from a friend of my parents that the show was badly put together and the acts were performed at a low quality (dropping of props, dropping of people… etc) but I also heard from Elizabeth H. that it was a great show. Fortunately for me, it was a great show! I was not disappointed and it really was worth the money.

In comparison to the two previous shows (Alegria and Quidam) I would have to say that I was struck by the costuming and performance more in Varekai. The highlight in Alegria (for I really can’t remember much…it was a while ago.) was the music, the soundtrack is amazing. Quidam is the story, it’s sweet and meaningful. This time it was the use of set and the costuming. I also had quite a few laughs even though it was a more morbid storyline. (It was a circus after all and a circus does have clowns!)

And we had premium seating, in the VIP section, “Tapis Rouge” they called it. So we were right in the middle which was great. Also, my dad got chosen to go on stage! (laughs hysterically) it was so funny, the clowns were searching for a volunteer, they walked past us (we were sitting on the edge) and then she walked back and picked my dad saying cheerfully, “we’ll have you!” He was wary let me tell you that! But really with the spotlight on us, he really had no choice but to be shuffled on stage and used in a disappearing magic trick.

So they put him behind a curtain, closed it, the magician called loudly some words (French no doubt – hence my inability to understand) of which I only understood “disappear!!” So the curtain was pulled back and my dad was standing there while the magicians’ assistant (blondie wearing a short pink dress!) was hugging my dad rather too affectionately! So the curtain was quickly closed and the words were called out again (this time with a bit more force). This time when the curtain was pulled back another one of the creatures from the forest (which the story takes place in) a pretty green female thing, was giving my dad a peck! (Oh rather lacking in magic tonight!) So once again the curtain was drawn and the magician said the words again (“blah blah DISAPPEAR!”) and it revealed the blondie and the green thing having a struggle…over my father no doubt! Once more proved to finally make my father disappear and in the midst of the clapping my dad walked out from behind the curtain. He was quickly shoved back behind the ‘magic’ curtain and the magician mumbled some other words this time yelling loudly “APPEAR!” and my dad was there, wearing a blonde wig and a pink apron! Now him and the assistant were rather matching! Oh I could hardly sit up for my laughter! A simply classic moment!

It was a very good show and I left feeling very happy! And I did buy the soundtrack as I did with the previous two shows, though I think only Yalan and I really care about that.

Moving on, we attempted to get wireless broadband (I know, about time right? I was thinking the same thing) but for some reason it didn’t work. Well it did work as in it was functioning but we were at dial up speed!.............. -.-“

So I was offline for a few days. (I would like to say that is the reason for such a long blog entry rather than my inclination to type excessively).

On Friday morning my family and I left for Whiritoa to spend a few days at a beach-side batch. My stepfather’s brother owns a place there so we stayed with him. Day one (arrival day) we walked down to the beach which took about ten minutes, and marvelled at the gorgeous surf! It was a beautiful place, though very hot in that distinctly burning hot NZ way.

We had a BBQ and I finished Wuthering Heights (yes I read Wuthering Heights during the summer holidays…what are you going to do about it? It was a pretty good book.) and found The Virgin’s Lover by Phillippa Gregory and thought well why not, it’s not a large book (I’m sure I remember it being thicker), I’ll finish it in a weekend. So I did and upon reading that, I’m deeply disturbed by English nobility and wonder what they’re like now…

Day two, we went on a fishing trip on our host’s boat. I and found out that I would not make a very good fisherwoman. Going out there I was fine but once we stopped and bobbled up and down and left and right for about two hours, I felt like chucking my breakfast. And it was supposed to be calm. It’s an incident I hope never to repeat.

Day three saw my stepfather and his uncle embarking on their own fishing trip without us. My mother, sister and I packed our things and went to the beach. It was glorious! The water was so beautiful and lusciously warm! This is one beach that I could spend a whole day at, it’s great. It has this little secluded bit that’s cut off from the main ocean with all it’s rolling waves so there is like a lake/river of softly rippling salt water. There are rocks and sand at the base of a forest covered, cliff-like place. It’s really something.

Joanna visited me recently and has asked me to continue my half-finished story on ff.net. So true to my word, I sought to read through my work so far and attempt to update. But it’s proving difficult when I am in the midst of burning out half a pad of refill with a totally new story, but be assured my good friend, I’ll get there soon.

In terms of school, I’ve got some stuff going for me! And am pleased to announce that this year, AGGS will be supporting the Variety Annual Appeal! You all better support my first individual endeavour as Service Prefect (and my second, third, fourth…).

So that will be all for now, take care everyone and enjoy our last moments of freedom. I look forward to seeing everyone very soon and starting what will hopefully be an absolutely wonderful year!

Late Summer

2007 is upon us and it's hard to imagine that I'm going to be a 7th former this year, and a prefect at that. This is what you spend your youth looking forward to, that day when you'll be top of the school and holding your future in your hands. Freedom of choice; isn't that what we all wanted? Well I'm finding it all a bit scary now, Uni next year...it's all happenening too fast for my comfort. I still feel like a child sometimes.
And we have such big shoes to fill! It's easy to think we're young and still have time to mull over career and future possibilites when you've got people like Yalan, Sarah, Ella, Bettina and Raewyn around you. But now they're all gone! And WE are in their place, it's so daunting. They were such a great 7th form, how can we compare? Well I'm hoping we can and make it even harder for future 7th formers! Haha!

Well school is not here yet, so I plan to enjoy the summer break as much as possible. I had the particularly traumatic experience with Auckland public transport this weekend. I have entered it on my msn space so I will copy it here:

Let me paint you a picture:
I planned to go to the city with KAREN who so conveneintly called me on FRIDAY to tell me she was working and couldn't make it. (I should have known...since when is Karen NOT working?... :p) So I called other friends who also turned out to be WORKING (this is a holiday isn't it...or am I mistaken?) but I found Georgia!
And now let me tell you the story:
So I agreed to meet her at Britomart at 11am. But upon reaching the trainstation close to my house I realised what Tamsin told me earlier about the trains not coming to Sturges Rd. Well I was screwed wasn't I? My closer friends and family know what I'm like with public transport. It was simple before, get on a train and sit there until the last stop. But noooo, now I have to catch some "Rail Bus" from God knows where. Then at New Lynn catch a train to Britomart. My stepfather took me to New Lynn himself for us only to find that the train leaves once every hour and we just missed it. Dang...Then I ran across the road...well two roads (If you've been to New Lynn Transport Centre you'll know what I mean) from the train station to the opposite bus stop. A friendly old bus driver had directed me there of course, telling me I could catch the bus from there directly to Britomart. So I stood there with a bunch of really dodgy looking people...on guy who asked me if I had any spare change...to which I said no even though I'm sure he saw me get on the bus with my coin-age....scary... anyway I stood for about two mins before the bus arrived. I then got on and paid for I don't know how many stages...I just handed over a bunch of coins...(probably $4 I think) and flashed my student ID. The bus driver gave me some change and I took my seat in the pretty much empty bus. I'm so used to catching buses in Mt Eden on weekday mornings that this bus seemed errie - there were only a handful of people on!
So anyhow, I sat on the bus and poor Georgia had to wait for half an hour before I finally arrived, lost and confused, outside Britomart. After spotting a familiar face though, all seemed well and we progressed to Sky City tiketec to buy two tickets for Varekai. (Because Karen didn't get them as she told me she would "don't worry" she told me...sheesh :p)
After hanging around for a bit we made our way back to Britomart so that I could find a way back. Now I thought well I could take a train to New Lynn and my parents could pick me up there. Only the next train was leaving at 4.15pm and we were standing there at about 3.30pm. so once again I turned to the buses for help. I caught a bus that read 159 that was apparently going to New Lynn. So once again I sat in a pretty much empty bus and waited. On the bus my parents text me saying if I could come to Sturges Rd. OMG. But I'm a calm person, totally independent and I would SO work this out. So I said yeah, you know, I'll be there.
At New Lynn by around 4pm. Checked timetable on bus stop 4c (took me a while to find it!) and saw that the 159 that stops very close to my house left at 3.50pm and the next one came at 4.50pm. Well ain't that just great? (I know Tamsin, you're cracking up right now...but it wasn't very funny at the time!)
So I was like "okay....now what?" I text my parents saying I would be home at 5.30pm and meanwhile I decided to hang around inside Lynn Mall rather than at the bus stop where all the dodgy people were at. So I went to the bathroom and bought a top up at the Vodafone shop while asking some meaningless questions about Supa prepay. (Which I am now on no doubt! And txt 2000 so feel free to txt me!)
I then browsed through some clothing shops and headed back out the bus stop. The 149 rolled around and I once again, handed some money over and sat down in the squeaky shuddering bus that was nearly empty.
Shelley will be able to share this traumatic exprience with me...at some point during the ride I became the ONLY person on the bus. And there were cows, bush, trees and other such farm-like objects. Upon seeing something slightly familiar I pulled the bell and the bus stopped...early. So I quickly said "I'm sorry it's the next stop." And the bus driver continued. I soon saw THE PALM TREE. I don't believe I have ever been so glad to see that palm tree! Once I got off I made my way quickly down my street and home! Home sweet home!
What an experience....Auckland public transport I tell you...*shakes head* That is why we have cars...I hope never to repeat that ever again!

As you can see, I was rather shaken by my encounter and I really do hope it never happens again.

For now I'm lazing at home and wondering when summer will make it's appearance. I'm sure behind all this cloud and rain there is a searing hot sun waiting to burn as all lobster red. But for now it's hidden. Summer for once, is bearable.

Well have a nice day and I'll try to update this blog throughout the year to keep track of my 7th form.
