Hey! Well this weekend Jazz, Sam I. and I went to the World Vision Student Leadership Course. We arrived at 7pm (Well I was on time anyway...*cough cough*) on Friday night and got these cool little name tags and stuff. I felt pretty important! Haha oh dear I'm such a weirdo.
Anyway, so after that I went and set up in my cabin which we shared with two girls from Whangarei and Cinnamon from Elim Christain College in Howick (Yeah...I had never heard of it before but they're small so I guess it's understandable.) We had a speaker talk to us and then supper where we met Ian, Joanathan and Cinnamon which ended up forming the group we hung out with and ate with. After supper was yet another speaker. Then lights at 11pm which disapppointed some people.
Saturday morning we woke up, had breakfast, had a talk and then got separated in teams. (I was in Team 4, Jazz in 10 and Sam in 9) and we played some games. We spent the afternoon going around doing activities that were fun but taught us about the difficulties underprivelidged people have to endure on a daily basis.
Before the activities though we build shelters out of 3 cardboard boxes, tape and scissors. This was a team activity but my team ended up joining up with two others to build this massive shelter. We needed to fit everyone inside the shelter so we had this giant...thing that even had rooms lol it was pretty exciting. And some people gathered giant falled, dried up leaf things to put as protection over our shelter. We did end up fitting all 34 people that made up our 3 teams which was pretty cool. It was a squeeze, though it was for pretty much every group.
Unfortunately we were all packed in there rather like sardines when the leaders started throwing buckets of water and water bombs at us. There was no escape! So one guy kind of broke down one of the walls and we all spilled out just in time as the whole shelter collapsed. Great fun however.
This morning we woke up, had breakfast, listened to some speakers again (oh we did that on Saturday night as well) and then got into our regional groups. Central was pretty big so we separated ourselves rather quickely my group consisted of all the grammar schools. EGGS, AGS, AGGS, and MRGS. We were brainstorming on ideas of how to promote the famine and raise as much as possible together. There were some great people in our little huddle and then there were some pretty bossy people but we're all good. Variety is the spice of life after all...
So we've got a couple of ideas however, I can't really say them yet incase someone else decides to steal them for their schools and also we're still in the planning stages.
In all it was a pretty good camp where most people were open and friendly, met some really passionate and intelligent people which was great.
Today is also, CHINESE NEW YEAR! Happy year of the Golden Pig everyone! Have a great time and hope you get lots of money ;)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
